Currently There are three teams that Professor Willow will ask you to join, as soon as, you enter a gym for the first time. Neither of the teams are any 
better then the other, however you might have a preference based on color. You can pick from Team Mystic (blue) Team Valor (red) and Team Instinct (yellow).
Mystic is the most cerebral of the teams, interested in the science behind Pokémon evolution. Team Instinct is a bit more cavalier, believing that success in an individual battle all about intuition and the innate talents of your Pokémon . Their color is yellow, and they’re led by a guy named Spark. Valor is all about training and discipline, as set down by leader Candela.
